We all begin in darkness. At birth, it hurts to look at the light.
Yet our very nature longs for that light.
Our entire being is in constant search of it.
I've been living in darkness nearly all my life. Born in dark and uncertain times in Ukrainian history, my generation seemed to have reached that light—only to be interrupted by the Russian invasion and war.
In times of darkness, it’s hard to know which way to go, and all you can do is reach for the next visible step.
Just like in photography, long exposure helps in dark times. In Ukrainian, the word for exposure is “vytrymka”, which also means the ability to endure hardship.
The darker the times, the more exposure you need to find the light.
